Dear Biodefense and Emerging Infectious Diseases Researcher:

The Western Regional Center of Excellence for Biodefense and Emerging Infectious Diseases Research (WRCE) invites applications for Research Projects. Applications are due by April 1, 2008. These investigator-driven research projects will be included in the WRCE competing renewal application that will be sent to NIH before June 3, 2008. Please refer to the RFP linked to this web page by clicking on "Research Projects”, above.

It is important to remember that the goals for the RCEs are to develop vaccines, therapeutics, and diagnostics that are targeted to the Category A-C agents, and projects directly related to achieving this goal will be given high priority. Projects exhibiting novelty and genuine innovation will also be given extra consideration.

Contact Kimberly Schuenke (kischuen@utmb.edu) or Douglas Watts (dowatts@utmb.edu) to determine whether the concept you are proposing overlaps existing RCE projects and fits within the scope of allowable activities. fits within the proposed themes. You must contact Dr. Schuenke with a letter of intent if you plan to submit a full proposal. The PHS398 forms and instructions can be found by clicking on the links above.

Sincerely,

David H. Walker, M.D.
